Whether you just arrived in Europe or are starting your last year on this beautiful continent, you need to take advantage of the myriad of amazing experiences at your doorstep. Europe is much smaller than Canada and interconnected, which makes travelling between countries easy. European countries offer so much diversity of landscapes, food, and experiences that it’s hard to narrow it down a list of only 5 things. However, here is a list of 5 bucket list things to do in Europe before the end of your posting.


1. Climb up the Eiffel Tower in Paris

Built for the 1889 World’s Fair, very few buildings are as famous as the Eiffel Tower and your time in Europe is a perfect opportunity for you to see it for yourself. Climb 276m (905 feet) over Paris to enjoy amazing panoramic views of this incredible city. And, while you’re in Paris, enjoy some inimitable French gastronomy and visit one of the many world-class museums in the city.

2. Explore ancient ruins in Rome

The history of the European continent spans millennia and boasts some of the world’s most fascinating cultures. The artifacts and ruins left by those civilizations are on full display all across Europe and nowhere is that truer than in Italy, in particular, Rome. In this magical city, you can walk across the remnants of the Roman Empire or have a meal while gazing upon buildings that are thousands of years old. These ruins are sure to transport you to a different time and teach you how people used to live. And, after a long day of walking through history, you can enjoy some incredible Italian food.

3. Visit the Christmas Markets in Germany

Christmas in Europe can be a bittersweet experience as you might be far away from the people and traditions you usually enjoy. However, it is also an incredible opportunity to discover new traditions. German Christmas Markets are world-famous for their festive spirit, delicious food, and warming mulled wine. They are a great way to look forward to Christmas and to find unique, handmade gifts while enjoying gingerbread and roasted chestnuts. If you are spending Christmas in Europe, they are a must-live experience.

4. Take a road trip through the Scottish Highlands

Scotland is famous for its natural beauty. Think rugged landscapes, lush greenery, waterfalls, mountains, and cliffs. The Netherlands is famous for its tulips. In Spring, millions of them bloom across the country in colourful strips. Near Amsterdam, Keukenhof Gardens plants tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and other bulbous flowers, creating a colourful display of the best Spring has to offer. Walking among the blooms and discovering the astounding variety of tulips is definitely an experience everyone should have on their bucket list. It’s important to plan properly though, as the flowers bloom for only a few weeks in April and May.
