Are you thinking of applying to a Canadian Forces Morale & Welfare Services (CFMWS) position during your posting in Europe? Want to know exactly what is required and if are you eligible? Here is some helpful information and tips to help you with your future applications.
Our Human Resources department works with the Military Family Services (MFS) and Personnel Support Programs (PSP) in Europe. Both divisions offer a variety of part time positions, which is great for the work-family balance (or work-family-travel balance!). They also offer a few full time positions as Managers, Fitness Coordinators and Social Workers. Are you living in a location where there is no CFMWS community center? Do not worry! Occasionally, we offer remote positions supporting the delivery of programs & services to our OUTCAN community in Europe. Speak with your local HR Office regarding these options. Because OUTCAN postings usually last between 2 to 4 years, employee roll over is constant, which means we are always in need of someone new, especially during the Active Posting Season (APS).
To be eligible to work for CFMWS in Europe, you have to be a dependent of a serving Canadian military member/Civilian component member. You also have to be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident with a SOFA stamp or any document recognizing your legal status to live and work in Europe. Some countries in Europe unfortunately do not allow dependents to work while OUTCAN. If you are unsure of your status and/or eligibility, please do not hesitate to contact your local Orderly Room or our HR Office.
A big part of the hiring process is obtaining a security clearance. This reliability clearance is completed upon your hire, but having the documents ahead of time speeds up the process and guarantees a better onboarding. You will need : a copy of your provincial birth certificate (long forms not accepted), a government issued photo ID, five years of resident addresses along with proof, proof of relevant education, proof of previous employment from past 5 years.
What exactly are we looking for in applicants? Each available job poster will outline the specific requirements for the advertised position. Where CFMWS’ shared competencies revolve around client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership, we also assess these during the selection process. Each position comes with a defined language requirement, which is why it is important to indicate on your resume your language ability, especially if you are applying for a bilingual position. We encourage applicants to provide cover letters with their resumes as this is a great way to summarize your qualifications, experience, and helps you convince us that you are a great fit.
All of our current employment opportunities can be found on CAF Connection: Civilian Employment Opportunities (cafconnection.ca). Applications can be submitted online or by email. Our HR team is always happy to help, so if you have any questions, please reach out to us at Europe.recruiting@cfmws.com.
