Best Destinations to Visit in Europe During Spring

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

Tulips in the Netherlands

It’s time to get out of hibernation and take advantage of warmer weather, longer days, and cheaper prices to explore Europe this spring. Here are a few magical destinations that you shouldn’t miss out on.

The Netherlands

The Netherlands must be the top destination to visit in Europe during the spring for one main reason: tulips. This country is famous for its tulips and holds a tulip festival every year. If you’ve ever seen pictures of fields and fields of tulips stretching as far as the eye can see, you know you need to visit the Netherlands in the spring. Take a bike ride through the tulip fields or visit the Keukenhof Gardens (where more than 7 million tulips are planted!) for full effect. While you’re there, take advantage of the mild weather to take a boat ride through the canals.

Italy and France

If you’ve ever wanted to explore the Italian or French countryside, spring is a wonderful time to visit. Not only is the weather beautiful and much less warm than in the summer, but it’s also much less crowded, which makes it ideal to visit. The countryside comes alive with wildflowers and it’s one of the best seasons to enjoy some delicious food and wine.

Germany

Another popular European spring destination is Germany. Like the rest of Europe, the weather gets milder, and the beer gardens start to open, making it a perfect time to enjoy local beer and food outdoors. Germany is also home to several spring festivals, such as the Stuttgart Spring Festival.

Czech Republic

The arrival of spring means that Easter is right around the corner. Easter is an important holiday for most of Eastern Europe, so spring is the perfect time to visit countries such as the Czech Republic. Easter markets in cities like Prague are an incredible way to celebrate this holiday. Much like Germany, beer gardens also open in spring, making it a great season to visit this beautiful country.

Spain

Much like Italy and France, the spring weather in Spain is less warm than in the summer, and there are fewer crowds, making it an enjoyable time to visit this country. Spain is also home to fantastic music festivals in the spring, notably the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona. If you are looking for an excuse to visit this magical city and country, this is it!

Spring may not be as popular a time to travel as summer, but it is definitely a great time to do so. The weather is perfect, not too warm, not too cold. Cities are not overflowing with tourists yet. Nature is vibrant and lush, full of colourful wildflowers. In many countries, the arrival of spring is celebrated through festivals, markets, and the reopening of patios and beer gardens.

Happy exploring!
