The French get 10 holidays and five weeks paid leave a year. The Swiss and the Belgians get 20 days of paid leave in addition to holidays. In Canada, most people employed for at least a year only get two weeks of paid leave.


In the EU any sparkling wine that isn’t from France’s northerly Champagne region can’t use the word champagne to refer to its product, by law.


They don’t have screens on windows. Surprises can happen because of this. Not only can flies enter your home, but so can geckos in the south of France.


The baguette - a mixture of wheat flour, water, yeast, salt and a pinch of know-how, and a symbol of France like the Eiffel Tower - has been recognized by UNESCO. The craft skills and culture of the baguette in France have been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
