Thriving Through Community

As we move into a new year, we frequently hear, “This year my resolution is…(insert action here)”.

We may even endeavour to add or remove something that is so daunting that it very seldom remains a part of our daily lives. All of this done with good intentions, and conceivably, faith that it will improve our quality of life and our ability to THRIVE throughout inevitable change.

Collins dictionary defines the verb THRIVE as; If someone or something thrives, they do well and are successful, healthy, or strong. As military families we are all too familiar with the importance of this word and the impact it can have on our wellbeing. As thriving is essential to the resiliency of a military family, perhaps this year it’s time for a shift in our language. Perhaps our “new year’s resolutions” turn into “new year’s focused intentions”, with a resolve to seek out tools to strengthen our resiliency while living OUTCAN.

Our Military Family Services support teams in Europe endeavour to ensure we help provide tools and opportunities for each family to strengthen their resiliency, tools to help you THRIVE. One of those tools is, Community. Whether it be face to face or virtual, community is something we all need and something that can certainly impact our ability to THRIVE. We encourage you this year to find ways to be part of a community. This might be a virtual book club, a mom & tots group or a coffee morning that allows you to share struggles and victories with other families and learn through experience what we all, in our own unique way, require to THRIVE. A New Year’s “intention” that will certainly have a lasting impact on your well being and that of your families.

If you have any suggestions on how we can grow our community services, we are here to listen, support and ensure a resilient CAF family that continues to be successful, healthy and strong!

Happy New Year’s from the MFS(E) Family Services Team!
